Ininsky garden of stones is landscape natural monument of regional importance. The exact origin of boulders is unknown, but there are several hypotheses. There is a belief that huge boulders have magical powers, taking negative energy and giving a positive.
Ininsky rock garden is a unique phenomenon of nature, located in the southwestern part of the Barguzin valley, near the village of Ina. There are huge boulders, rising up from the ground for 4-5 meters. The origin of these stones is still unknown. There are many scientific versions, as well as romantic legends. Some scientists believe that these stones are the remains of ancient glacial deposits, and there is still no consensus about their age. Famous researcher of Lake Baikal V. V. Lamakin believed that they were more than 100 thousand years old, and doctor of geological and mineralogical Sciences E. I. Muravsky thought it is about 40-50 thousand years ago. Irkutsk geologist, Professor G. F. Ufimtsev, spoke about the relatively recent origin of the rocks resulting in huge emissions of coarse blocky material at the dam in the river Ina and its tributaries.
There is also an ancient legend about the origin of the stone garden. According to it, the stones were formed as a result of a dispute between two rivers: Ina and Barguzin. The dispute was who would be the fastest to reach Baikal. Barguzin decided to cheat. He rushed to Baikal exactly that night. An angry Ina ran after him, throwing huge boulders out of the way. Since then stones lie
on both sides of the river. Ininsky garden of stones is amazingly beautiful. The morning fog gives it a special beauty and mystery. Huge boulders look like islands or mountains protruding above the sea of clouds.
