Monakhovo is not much a settlement (there are only a couple of houses), but the point from which the sea voyage begins. Here is a pier from which you can go on a wonderful cruise to lake Baikal!
The name of the village is explained by the fact that in the XIX century this place was a monastery, where monks lived. At the moment it is a starting point for the Chivyrkui Gulf. From here, you can take a water cruise around the Svyatoy Nos Peninsula or take a stroll along the Peninsula’s specially paved ecological trails.
Monakhovo is a transport hub where local automobile, Hiking and water routes converge. This village is located on the territory of the Zabaikalsky national Park. The way from the control point of the Park ends in Monakhovo, and then there are two possible ways: on the water or on a difficult ecological path. With only There are 2 environmental pathways: one along the Chivyrkuisky Bay, the second is right up to the Zmeevaya Creek. These trails are quite complicated. The road is winding, with numerous ascents and descents.
There is a barrier at the entrance to the national Park. Entrance to its territory is paid. Visiting the national Park is strictly by permission. You will need permission when you decide to visit Zmeevaya Bay.
In the off-season (roughly from October to the end of January and from mid-may to early June) the village is quiet. But in summer and even in early spring the shore is transformed into a bustling tent city, with a cluster of water transport and many cars.
In Monakhovo everyone will find a journey for themselves. If you want to soak up in the hot tubs, then you should go to the Bay of Zmeinaya, If you want to walk a mountain route, then you should go on a difficult ecological path along the coast, if you want to look at the rookery of unique Baikal seals, then you should go to the Ushkany Islands. But do not forget that this is the territory of the Zabaikalsky national Park, which has strict rules.
