The river Barguzin is one of the most important tributaries of Baikal. It attracts tourists with its picturesque views, an abundance of fish and unique sacred places located in the valley of the river.

This river flows into the largest Bay of lake Baikal – Barguzin Bay. The river Barguzin has three sources and they all start in the rocky circuses of the main watershed of Ikat range. Here it doesn`t look like the great and mighty Barguzin, which flows in the valley. Here it is small and looks like a stream that flows down from the majestic Ikat ridge. Further, the streams flow and join to form the most powerful river Barguzin.
The river is famous for its picturesque views. Local people have always animated nature, so the river Barguzin for them was alive, having a soul. Many Buryat legends mention the river Barguzin. For example, a legend about the Ininsky garden of stones. Once rivers Barguzin and Ina argued, who would be the first to reach Baikal. Barguzin decided to cheat, and went exactly that night. An angry Ina ran after the Barguzin, scattering huge boulders out of her way. According to legend, that is how the Ininsky garden of stones was formed…
